The Never-Forgotten Doll

One day, Ellie went to her sitters house "What a surprise!"Miss Maggie said as she opened the door. She had just made cookies and she asked Ellie to help her eat a few. While they were eating the cookies Ellie asked Miss Maggie to tell her a story about her favorite toy. She told her one time on her eighth birthday she got a doll. It was the most beautiful doll she had ever seen. The doll wore a fancy white dress with lace trim and her long brown hair was tied back with a pink satin ribbon. Miss Maggie's eyes got misty. She said she was careful with her all morning. She said it was so magical to hold her. Her mother called her to the kitchen to blow out the candles on her cake and she laid the doll down gently on the table. But when she went to join her family they all heard a crash. She knew it was her doll without looking. Her lacy dress had hung from the table just enough for her baby sister to pull on it. Her mother tried to glue it back together but her doll was gone. Ellie wrapped her arms around Miss Maggie and hugged her tight. For the rest of the day she couldn't stop thinking about how sad Miss Maggie looked. Saturday was Miss Maggie's birthday. They were going to make a cake to cheer her up about the doll. The next day Ellie saw a doll in a window of a store. She didn't look like the one Miss Maggie had but Ellie could fix her up. She went in and wanted to know how much the doll was. 35 dollars the man said. Where would Ellie ever get the money? Her mother wouldn`t give her the money. She said the cake would be good enough. Ellie emptied her bank and she got $8.49. She brought it to the store and told the man she would pay the rest back in chores. The man said it was okay. When she got to Miss Maggie's she wanted to know what was in the bag and Ellie told her it was a secret. Ellie coloured the dolls hair when she got home. She knew where to find the lace. She took her party dress and cut the lace off. What would her mother say about it? They went to Miss Maggie's Saturday afternoon. They marched in singing happy birthday. Then Ellie gave Miss Maggie her gift. Her eyes filled with tears. She is exactly like my doll I got for my birthday. Ellie asked her mother if she was mad about her dress and her mother said no. They ate the cake and Miss Maggie said it was the best birthday yet!

I would recommend this book because it has really colorful pictures and it is a really nice story to read if your birthday is coming up or even if you just want to read.
